Introduction:
xxxxx interdisciplinary research is elaborated as a speculative form of making or constructivism related to fiction; a collision enframing artistic practice with a Jabberwocky science. A literary endeavor in code teases out a rich xxxxx thematic encompassing hardware as interrogations, the history of computation, endophysical theory and software as substance or environment. Such concerns have recently been elaborated under the vigorous, explorative rubric of "life coding."
Research matter:
The xxxxx centre will be concerned with the specification and fabrication of an artistic CPU (black boxed Central Processing Unit) precisely divining a relation to technology (not as a being within of industrial relation); a platform for interrogation of the (world as) interface (endophysics).
Construction of this tower of abstractions as interrogative tool is proposed through the (life) coding of an artistic promiscuOS operating system for this platform or architecture.
Rationale and methodology:
ap/xxxxx have recently been occupied with a series of self-organised lecture/performance events in London, and Bergen which assemble a diverse grouping of scientists, theorists and artists occupied with common constructivist concerns; a making which can purely exist as discussion and theory yet always occupied with creation in the world. These public, unique events, which take an entirely new approach to interdisciplinary endeavor, suffer from a lack of constructive and discursive continuity which the centre proposes to remedy by way of long term active research with extensive public review and available documentation (under a free software license). A base staff of programmer and electronics guru augments visiting researchers and temporary guests. The methodology borrows from the scientific yet without critique subverts this hegemony by way of what is poorly termed as fiction. An archaeology of such approaches by way of writers such as Thomas Pynchon and Lewis Carroll, scientists such as Otto Roessler and artists such as Gustav Metzger is proposed.
