crash points forward, opening up a new interdisciplinary space through the heuristic possibilities of software abstracting. crash may be viewed from polyvalent perspectives and is not limited to the computational nor the current discourse permeating new media/digital work.

crash begins with a day long symposium forcing for a new discursive and febrile space by parallaxing through the hermetics of software/code art, marking breakpoints with humanist ontologies, linking auto-destructive art, quantum physics and extruded software abstraction.


The basis of the symposium centres around the domains of:

1) The examination of humanist ontologies by the quantum physical
2) The form space of code and environment and its autopoeitic
engineering


Subthemes in relation to these two domains are:

a) The decoding and recoding of data under non species dependent symbolic
orders
b) The limits of limitations and the autism of closure

 

crash symposium [chaired by graham harwood] will examine issues such as black hole computing, collapsed layers of abstraction, simulation and reality bindings, interface and OS, and auto-destructive art in the context of crashing with presentations from researchers in the fields of software, physics, art, including florian cramer, stewart home, otto roessler, lisa jevbratt, arthur moore, sunny bains, dick bierman, martin howse and jonathan kemp.

The evening event, intense constructivist noise, brings together artists using self-coded applications (yves degoyon, ap, farmers manual), self-constructed hardware (andy bolus, ap) with international performers pita, erich berger, stillupsteypa, kaffe matthews, russell haswell (further artists tbc.) presenting a superb, concrete lineup which rounds out concerns such as autopoeitic engineering and narrative.
